The Victorian Palliative Care Advice Service (PCAS) is seeking a passionate and experienced Specialist Palliative Care Nurse to join our dedicated team. This remote role provides a unique opportunity to support Victorians living with life-limiting illness and their caregivers through expert, phone-based clinical advice, navigation, and support.

As a Specialist Nurse, you will serve as the primary point of contact—providing expert clinical advice, navigating callers to appropriate services, and helping manage the complexities of palliative care. This role demands exceptional clinical expertise, deep knowledge of the Victorian healthcare system, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

As a vital member of the team, you will operate within a nurse-led model supported by the Parkville Integrated Palliative Care Service, contributing to improved access to palliative care—especially in regional and rural communities.

Specialist palliative care nurses residing throughout Victoria are encouraged to apply.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications, skills and experience sought:

  • Registered Nurse with postgraduate qualifications in Palliative Care, or working towards
  • A commitment is demonstrated to The Melbourne Way, including putting people first, leading with kindness, and achieving excellence through collaboration. 
  • Calm and collaborative practice is consistently demonstrated in clinical and multidisciplinary settings. 
  • Advanced clinical knowledge relevant to palliative care and advisory roles is evidenced. 
  • Assessment, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills are applied at an advanced level, with sound clinical reasoning used in practice. 
  • Decisions are made autonomously when required, while effective contributions are made to teambased care. 
  • High levels of motivation and a strong willingness to engage in continuous learning are maintained. 
  • Communication is conducted with clarity, empathy, and professionalism, ensuring strong interpersonal relationships across patient and team interactions. 
  • Professional conduct is consistently upheld, with a high level of reliability shown. 
  • Adaptability to change is demonstrated, and innovation and resourcefulness are regularly applied in response to evolving service needs. 
  • Extensive clinical experience is held across a range of palliative care environments, including community, inpatient, and acute hospital settings. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Victorian healthcare systems and funding streams. 
  • Collaborative practice is maintained with multidisciplinary teams to support integrated patient care. 
  • High-quality, evidence-based patient care is routinely delivered, with an emphasis on dignity, comfort, and personal goals.
  • An interest is shown in participating in nurse-led research to enhance palliative care practices and outcomes.
