This position is located within Melbourne City Mission Palliative Care (MCMPC) division and implements MCM’s commitment to best practice in palliative care. Established in 1981 as the first community-based palliative care service to operate in Victoria, MCMPC aims to enhance quality of life by providing specialist interdisciplinary palliative care for people living with a terminal condition, their families and carers.
Working as a member of an interdisciplinary team and in collaboration with external health professionals, the Palliative Care Registered Nurse will provide specialist palliative care to MCMPC clients in accordance with the values, policies and procedures of MCMPC, and within the philosophy and organisational values of MCM.
We are looking for someone who can:
- Provide holistic support, advocacy, relevant education and practical support advice to clients and carers of diverse ages, cultures and backgrounds.
- Engage in symptom assessment, care plan development, and plan follow up requirements.
- Plan and coordinate services (with other agencies or disciplines) relating to end of life care with all clients and carers.
- Deliver a high standard of care regardless of differing values, beliefs, culture and social context.
- Ability to work independently with guidance and support from the senior nursing team.
- Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Accommodate and work with change.
- Engage in reflective practice and provide and receive feedback.
Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role you will need to have:
- Medication Endorsement with current certification from the Nursing and Midwifery Board AHPRA.
- Minimum of four years’ post graduate work experience, preferably in Palliative Care or Oncology. Community nursing experience highly desirable.
- Postgraduate qualifications in palliative care and/or oncology, or working towards.
- The ability to work in an environment in which clients have a terminal illness and demonstrated sensitivity to people living with a terminal illness and those who are dying or bereaved.
- Demonstrated high level clinical decision-making and assessment skills.
- Competence with electronic client records and well-developed computer skills.
Applicants with experience in palliative care will be employed as a Grade 3 Registered Nurse.
Successful applicants without palliative care experience will be employed as a Grade 2 Registered Nurse.
